Double /Triple Glazing

There are countless benefits to getting double glazed windows for your home. It’s great at reducing noise, plus you can add an extra layer of insulation to keep the heat locked in – which also acts as an extra layer of security to keep intruders out.

Despite all these benefits, some homeowners struggle to cover the initial costs of double glazing. Thankfully, there are ways to bring this price down – with government grants being one of the key support systems.

What Is Double Glazing

Double glazing is when you bind two sheets of glass together to create a small air gap which is filled with an insulating gas. The primary benefit of this process is for thermal insulation and to retain heat in a room whilst stopping cold air entering to make the home more energy-efficient.

Double glazing will not only help you save on your energy bills but also reduce your carbon footprint significantly.

Additionally, any disruptive noise from outside will be significantly decreased and the windows are durable, making it harder for intruders to enter, offering added security for you and your family.

Average Cost of Double Glazing Per Window?

The average double glazing costs around £640 per window but could be a couple of hundred pounds cheaper, with top quality double-glazed windows, available for as little as £300. Although it is worth taking into account that the cost of installation can be around an extra £250, but worth it for a professional touch.

You will also need to consider that your installer will be putting up scaffolding to get to your window, that will also cost extra – the higher the window, the higher the price.

If you plan on getting a bay window replaced, installers will also need more time (meaning more money) to fit it. It will take about half a day for two people, whereas a simpler model such as casement windows can be done within a couple of hours.

Can You Get Double Glazing Grants in 2022?

The Green Homes Grant was cancelled a year earlier than intended back in March 2021.

However there is now a government backed ECO 4 scheme under which you could get a number of measures to upgrade your home including windows and doors.

ECO4 is the fourth and final stage of the government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which will run from April 2022 to March 2026.

The primary goal of this grant is to support low-income households who are unable to upgrade their homes and heating systems. It does this by partnering with major energy suppliers in the UK to provide free home upgrades – including installing double glazing – to vulnerable households.
